Enjoy rewards and more

It’s important to us that your hard work feels valued and rewarded – and that you can enjoy a welcoming and enjoyable working environment. We offer a wide range of benefits as part of our salary packages. Through initiatives like our annual health checks, there is also a strong focus on listening to our team to help make this a place where everyone feels happy in their surroundings through our Children's Services Workforce Development Strategy.

The Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) is one of the largest public sector pension schemes in the UK. It is an excellent defined benefit pension scheme operating on a career average earnings basis. Contribution rates depend on actual pensionable pay and vary between 5.5% and 12.5%. GCC will pay in the balance of the cost of providing the benefits after taking into account investment return.

The LGPS also provides valuable life cover of 3 x salary along with valuable financial protection for dependants.

Salaries are benchmarked against other local government authorities and reviewed regularly to ensure they remain competitive.

The Council operates a scheme which allows employees to apply to purchase additional annual leave (up to a maximum of 10 days).

You’ll start on a minimum of 24.5 days annual leave per annum (pro-rata for reduced hours), rising to 29.5 days after five years (plus public and bank holidays). Gloucestershire County Council also offers you the opportunity to purchase up to 10 days additional annual leave each year.

We provide free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours every day online and by telephone. This service offers professional counselling, information and advice service offering support for issues arising from either home or work.

We offer qualified social workers £5,000 to support a move to our county.

There is usually flexibility to vary your daily start and finish times, and to take advantage of mobile working in some cases. Options include working flexi-time, compressed or part-time, on a job share or term-time contract or from home (where operationally feasible) - this should be clarified in the application information for the specific role.

You can opt to take part of your salary in the form of childcare vouchers, free of tax and national insurance.

Our staff discount scheme offers council employees access to great savings (including discounts with major supermarket chains and high street retailers) as well as cashback when shopping online.

Via the cycle to work scheme you can gain a form of loan for a new bike and any safety equipment, which is then paid back by salary sacrifice with tax and National Insurance benefits.
